Abstract

This paper examines the pattern of Media reportage of ethno-religious conflicts in Kaduna metropolis. The importance of electronic media in the world is well recognized due to its functions of social responsibility. The aim of this research is to ‘Assess the Role of Federal Radio Corporation Nigeria (FRCN) and Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC) in their reportage of ethno-religious conflict within Kaduna metropolis between 2011-2019’ The research adopts both Qualitative and Quantitative method of research which allows the researcher to use a designed questionnaire as well as structured interview to gather a data. The research anchored on Social Responsibility Theory of media. The findings of the study reveal that, ethno-religious conflicts in Kaduna metropolis were not caused by the reportage of (FRCN and KSMC) radio stations. The study concludes that (FRCN and KSMC) serves as the best electronic media houses in Kaduna metropolis because they usually abide by the ethics of journalism, and are objective in their reportage. They serve as an instrument of peace and they always educate, inform and enlighten people concerning the importance of living together harmoniously. The study recommends that, (FRCN and KSMC) be seen as helping to report issues on ethno-religious conflict as they occur without selective coverage.
