A PHILOSOPHICAL EVALUATION OF SAMIR AMIN’S POLITICAL IDEOLOGIES WITHIN THE PRISMS OF NEOLIBERALISM AND POLITICAL INSTABILITY IN THE GLOBAL SOUTH

Abstract

This paper is a philosophical evaluation of Samir Amin’s political ideologies within the prisms of Neoliberalism and Political Instability in the Global South. Using data generated from secondary sources and descriptive method of analysis, Amin posited that the rulers in the South need to be skeptical and wary of what comes from the global institutions of governance. It was discovered that political instability in the global South has close affinity with leadership failure. As the indigenous bourgeoisie produced the ruling elites the new leaderships were put in a strategic position to implement the neoliberal agenda. But its conditionality’s systematically damaged the economies of these states. It has been realized that the same ruling elites would permit of no dissenting voices from among the people. Accountability dilemma results: whether more to the owners of capital at the international level or more to the people on whose behalf the state operates. The result is always instability. In light with the above finding, there was no deliberate effort to improve the living condition of Global South and this has led to human development crisis such as poor healthcare, poor education, poor infrastructure, and poor sanitation among others. Adoption and implementation of human-faced approach to economic reforms, the need to tackle corruption on all fronts were made as recommendations.
