THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF OIL SUBSIDY REMOVAL ON THE STANDARD OF LIVELIHOOD ON RESETTLED HOUSEHOLDS IN ADAMAWA NORTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT

Abstract

The paper evaluates the socioeconomic impacts of the removal of fuel subsidies on households within the Adamawa North Senatorial District. investigate the alterations in household income, expenditure patterns, and access to essential goods and services in the Adamawa North Senatorial District subsequent to the removal of fuel subsidies in Nigeria and propose strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of the removal of fuel subsidies on households in the Adamawa North Senatorial District. Quantitative survey approach was used for the study. The study used simple random sampling techniques while questionnaires was used as an instrument of data collection. The study used descriptive statistics and frequency distribution for the data analysis. The study discovered concerns related to affordability, availability, and quality across these services, underscoring the necessity for comprehensive policy considerations. The study recommends establish targeted financial assistance programs for resettled households to alleviate the socio-economic effects of oil subsidy removal, enhance access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and utilities within the Adamawa North Senatorial District, promote local economic development and job creation initiatives to boost economic activity in resettled communities and improve community infrastructure including transportation, water supply, and sanitation facilities.
