A SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF CORRUPTION ON NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA

Abstract

This study examines the impact of corruption on national development in Nigeria a sociological analysis. The paper adopted a descriptive approach to explain how corruption has affected national development negatively. The methodology used in the study was secondary sources, where data were collected from internet, journals, documents, Newspapers, books were all contents analyzed. The study anchored on collective theory as a theoretical framework to explain the nature of corruption in Nigeria. The study revealed that corruption has eaten deep into the entire fabric of Nigerian society. It has become norms and culture, and more or less a contagious disease that seems to be incurable disease. The paper, therefore recommended among others that proactive measures should be taken to tackles the menace of corruption in Nigeria. This can be achieved through enacting laws relating to anti- corrupt laws institute death penalty for the offenders. This will act as a sign or as deterrent to would be corrupt individuals or corporate body.
